2-26 Mechanisms and Operation Rev. A
Cover open sensor circuit
The cover open sensor is located next to the thermal printer mechanism, and it is connected via
switch circuit board assembly-B to the main circuit board unit-A. Detector signal R_COVER is
input to the CPU (U4).
Near end sensor circuit
The near end sensor is located next to the thermal printer mechanism and the roll paper holder.
It is connected via switch circuit board assembly-B to the main circuit board unit-A. Detector
signal RNE is input to the CPU (U4).
Control Panel Control Circuit
This control panel is located on switch circuit board assembly-B. It has three LEDs (POWER,
ERROR, RECEIPT OUT) and one switch (FEED). The POWER LED drives when +5V is supplied by
the power circuit. The ERROR and RECEIPT OUT LEDs are controlled by the CPU (U4). Switch
sensing is performed by the CPU (U4) (switch sensing signal is input to CPU port).
DIP Switch Read Circuit
There are a total of 14 DIP switches in banks DSW1 (switches 1 to 8) and DSW2 (switches 1 to 6).
Low level is read when a switch is ON and high level is read when a switch is off.
Malfunction Protection Circuit
The malfunction protection circuit protects against continuous energizing of the printer
mechanism due to runaway processing by the CPU, etc. The following are the causes to activate
the malfunction protection circuit:
❏ Output of the WDTOUT
signal due to runaway processing by the CPU.
❏ Output of SW24V_2 signal from the gate array (U5) due to runaway processing by the CPU.
❏ TIMI signal output when abnormal continuous output to paper feed motor drive circuit is
detected.
❏ TIMI signal output when print head temperature is abnormally high.
When any of the above triggers occurs, power supply to the printer mechanism is turned off (Q5
OFF) in order to protect the printer mechanism.
Drawer Kick Control Circuit
Signals DKD1 and DKD2 from gate array (U5) going active cause transistors Q7 and Q6 to turn
on, which in turn turns on transistor array QM1, outputting the drawer drive signal. The DK_S
signal, which indicates whether or not the drawer is open, is input to the CPU (U4), and this
status can be obtained from the host interface. The drawer power supply of +24V is supplied via
the regulator IC (U8), and the power supply is cut whenever over current or over duty occurs.
