When the printer power is turned on, ZD1 on the +20 VDC line turns on,

When +24 V is applied to this circuit, current flows via
R12 and

includes a +5 V reference voltage generator and compares the voltage at terminal O (pin 2) with
the reference voltage. When this voltage is lower than the reference voltage,

1 turns terminal I (pin
1 ) on. If the voltage is higher than the reference voltage,

1 turns the terminal off. This controls the
switching transistors

and Q21, and the output voltage is kept constant. Actual output voltage is
5.024 V (calculated value) because the

1 is raised to 0.024 V using the divider
